Apparently, I'm fine

I just got back from the doctor's office and, despite a very prolonged sore throat and a sometimes overwhelming sense of general malaise, I am fine. Apparently, I have sunk to a new low and may now include hypochondriacism among my daily activities.

I also dreamed last night that I passed through some sort of time warp and lost 7.5 hours of the night, stepping out of some Texas bar when it should have been 10PM but instead it was light outside and 5:30 in the morning and already humid and warm.

Here's a beautiful quote for you

“I have been photographing our toilet, that glossy enameled receptacle of extraordinary beauty. Here was every sensuous curve of the 'human figure divine' but minus the imperfections. Never did the Greeks reach a more significant consummation to their culture, and it somehow reminded me, in the glory of its chaste convulsions and in its swelling, sweeping, forward movement of finely progressing contours, of the Victory of Samothrace.”
--Edward Weston
(As read in Susan Sontag's "On Photography" whilst I was accidentally riding the wrong BART train in the wrong direction.)

I'm so pissed off

Because I spent a long portion of my dreaming life last night doing a focus group for Starbucks, concentrating really hard on giving thoughtful and insightful answers. Damnit!

Of course, before that I was hanging around with Wiley Wiggins again. I don't know why I keep meeting up with Wiley in my dreams, but it sure as hell beats doing Starbucks focus groups.

For all you baseball fans

Okay, not that I am or really think that any of you are... but the cool thing is that the press box at good ol' Royals stadium in Kansas City is going to be named for my grandfather and the ceremony will take place this evening. (See the link above) I like thinking of my grandpa as a young gent sitting up in a sunny press box with a notepad and pen and then hammering out stories on a clunky old typewriter. I think it's cool indeed.

Still life with Peeps

Easter egg hunts at Debra's house are awesome. You will find the eggs wrapped in fine papers under crazy moon plants and there will be many Peeps to be had. You will find that Peeps are unaffected by the rain. And it is good.

P.S. We did not find a wedding locale just yet. But we drank a lot of fine wine in the process of trying to find one. And this is good, too.

I am a Parkway addict!

Woohoo, the Parkway Theater in Oakland is showing Caveh Zahedi's new film 'I Am A Sex Addict' this week. This is great news. I am not as acquainted with Zahedi's work as I would like to be, though I always, and you may, remember him from the "Holy Moment" scene in 'Waking Life." Thank you, Parkway!

I am a woman of my word

And as such:

In Oklahoma, they have the world's most ghetto gas station. It's called ETHIO MART #2 and to enter you have to cross over an inch-thick chain that is attached to the neck of reddish colored dog and inside your eyes cannot focus on anything and outside they have a dilapidated and boarded up lemonade-stand-looking structure that purports to sell various hot foods.

Also, in Oklahoma the soil is red and quite pretty and I never even knew it before.

And also, I am pissed off because I didn't see one armadillo in Texas! Well, except for the stuffed one that was wearing a hat and holster at the boot store on S. Congress Ave in Austin.

I am home

Or am I? In any case, I'm freshly back to the O'. After putting nearly 2,000 miles on a rental car and sleeping in four different cities over the course of the last week, we made it back to the luminous left coast. Random comments about Oklahoma and pictures of trucks coming soon.
